The Wilson Years (1964-1970). On distinguera plusieurs aspects:
e - La naissance d'une culture de masse: médias ( That was the week that was, the Avengers, Z cars, etc.); art (Pop Art), musique (rock); langage (fab, groovy, swinging, gear, etc.), sport (World Cup 1966); "Swinging London" (Londres: capitale des jeunes; Carnaby Street, Mary Quant et les boutiques de mode; naissance d'une "drug culture").

The Wilson Years (1964-1970) The question focuses on the political, economic, social and cultural developments in Britain during the Wilson years. Several aspects will be covered:
a) Labour's return to office after thirteen years in opposition (1964 and 1966 elections); institutional changes; politicians and the exercise of power
b) the search for an economic strategy (planning, incomes policy, devaluation); the unsuccessful attempt at trade union reform.
c) Rethinking of foreign policy (withdrawal east of Suez, the Rhodesia problem, Europe: second attempt, second failure)
d) the transition to more tolerant social standards (legislation on abortion, homosexuality, divorce, abolition of the death penalty); the new challenges (women's rights, sexual freedom, racial equality, workers' rights, students' rights)
e) Birth of a mass culture: media (That was the week that was, The Avengers, Z-cars etc); art (Pop Art), music (rock); language (fab, groovy, swinging, gear, etc), sport (World Cup 1966); 'Swinging London' (London: youth capital, Carnaby St., Mary Quant and fashion boutiques; emergence of a 'drug culture')
